In ideal circumstances I prefer to make the Lao Tzu play:
"to lead people, walk behind them", fall back and keep at least one opponent behind you. If the last opponent squeaks by, a teammate will be right there to block until you catch up again
However this only works with the appropriate teammates. Otherwise it is better to use the Chuang Tzu approach:
"I dreamed I was a butterfly, flitting around in the sky; then I awoke. Now I wonder: Am I a man who dreamt of being a butterfly, or am I a butterfly dreaming that I am a man?", Change positions as necessary, attempt to lap if it appears possible, fall back if it doesn't work out. Watch teammates styles and adapt as the game progresses. Reflect afterward.
In a situation where there is significant lag I choose the Lei Chen-Tzu technique. Use magic to block, as well as attack.
